Cycle Tour Routes
Below you will find the countries we have cycle toured through so far. These include our cycle tour routes, with detailed maps, elevation, stories and photos from the road, and perhaps some useful information in there somewhere!
Thailand – Where it all began…
Thailand cycle tour routes, an incredible country to cycle through. Superb roads, friendly people, amazing weather and even better food. A must for anyone, cycle touring or not.
Cambodia – The long and dusty road…
An interesting country, still in turmoil from the reign of the Khmer Rouge. Some interesting landscapes, people and food, and many miles of red dusty roads to contend with. Plus an unexpected KOM – not sure how on a fully laden, cumbersome touring bike.
Vietnam – Hills and headwinds…
A wonderful country full of colour, horns beeping, warm coastlines and cold mountains and awesome roads with perhaps the best coffee in the world – cà phê đá
Australia – Not that flat…
A country where everything can kill you, but against all odds we survived nearly 6 months of cycle touring! And it’s not as expensive as we assumed (our cheapest country so far… we think!).
New Zealand – Tour Aotearoa…
This is an incredibly beautiful, hot, cold, windy and hilly country. Hard work, but worth the effort… sometimes. We put the bikes into temporary retirement and instead, spent our time trail running, tramping, fishing and mountain biking (proper biking!)
Indonesia – Fumes and fried food…
Back on the touring bikes and in search of some good coffee and good diving, Indonesia was a disappointment. We only cycled parts of Java, the most populated island so possibly a bad choice.
China – Not just strange food…
Fresh fruit, vegetables and delicious dumplings. Amazing roads and incredible feats of engineering. Stunning scenery, but no escape from industry. China is both eye opening and difficult to understand with its censorship, but what an amazing country to cycle.
Central Asia: The ‘Stans – An unknown world…
An area seemingly unknown to most, full of mystery, paranoid governments, a soviet past and a cuisine that gives most of it’s inhabitants a wonderful golden smile, the sun shining of each and every gold tooth! Some of the best hospitality and surprisingly beautiful landscapes.
The Caucasus – Europe or Asia…
Are we still in Asia or back into Europe? Certainly a pleasant change from Central Asia, the cities feel European but it doesn’t take long to be out the cities and things start feeling a bit more Asian again. Views dominated by the Caucasus mountains, and blurred by the drinking of wine from one of the oldest wine regions in the world.
